The
typical busy days and stress just before Christmas is not really a
thing here in Suzhou. Sure, there are some panic shopping events from
Expats, which recognized, that this year Christmas is again on the 24th
of December. Unbelievable. But apart from these guys it's really
relaxed. If there wouldn't be the private commitments. A friend of us
had birthday, which is definetly to be celebrated. She wanted to go to
Shanghai together with us for (window-) shopping and just spending a
nice day.
No Problem, late morning on Saturday we went off to Shanghai. Well,
it's a long ride in the car, so the first thing we did was having
brunch at the Element Fresh. Unfortunately this Restaurant has no
dependence in Suzhou. It was planned but never opened in the end. TIC,
After that we were ready to take the big shopping tour. In the bright
sun we left the cheap five-and-ten-cent-stores untouched and
headed.....
directly to Mark & Spencer. Well, there is no Christmas without I
learned. What is so special at M&S. Hmmm, there is some Scottish
mineral water. Ok, what else. My assumption is, it's just the name.
Beside of the name, hey, it's a store like others (uups, maybe I
should now disable the feedback form ;-)
But we survived also M&S and the result was 2 happy English ladies.
But this was only the first stop. Next one was the fake market. This is
definetly a must. Shoes, clothes, choppers, cars, just everything.
Totally unclear for us was, that Liz refused to have a nice jet-pilot
helmet as her birthday present. She mumbled something about "meo
e-bike" oder so. But we found her dream car: a RC Mini.
Enough of shopping after 4 hours or so. We boarded the next Taxi in the
direction to the French quarter. But the Taxi driver refused to drive
us. That's too near, we should walk. In Shanghai you're still the king
as costumer, one should think. Anyway, 15 minutes and a couple of
construction sites we arrived there.
In the French quarter, which is part of the old town of Shanghai, we
decided to have a rest first. It's birthday, we're thirsty and it's
chilly cold. Make a long story short, after the rest we went direct to
a Spanish restaurant and had a really good time together there.
But the weekend isn't over yet. Massimo was wiling to teach, how to
prepare (or should it be called: celebrate) a real Risotto Milanese.
But this is a total different story, maybe told next year.........
Until then, again merry Christmas, happy new year.
