A
new day in Kunming. After a astonishing silent breakfast (we guess it
was too early for the chinese tourists), we went to the stone forest.
Sounds nice, a forest made from stone. After a long car ride we arrived
in the area but were received not by stones but by a big bougainvillea
(the lilac-colored thing in the first picture), some exotic fruits and
highly motivated staff.
And before we saw the first stone, we saw some strange animals. The
"butterfly" in the first picture is bigger than a sparrow and we don't
know if it's a vegetarian one or not....
But now to something completely different: the stones. Well, in our
eyes it looked more like rocks than stones, but we'll not starting to
nag, we're in vacation ;-)
During the big earthquake in 1996 the stone forest was respectable
shaken. Since the there is one big stone jammed between 2 rocks. And
only who's heart is pure can walk under it without getting hit by the
stone. Hmm, for this the stone keeps it's place since a very long time.
But it's not only the stone forest worth seeing, there are also plenty
of chinese minorities in their traditional garbs. In this area it's the
Yi-people, one of the 55 minorities in China. The Sub-tribe is called
Sani.
The Yi people exists of around 6.5 Mio people (more than 1 Million more
than the Finns) living in the provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou.
A own language with in sum 6 different Dialects, an own writing, an own
calender show their own culture. There are some relations to the
tibetian people, so it's very probable, that they are relatives from
ancient times. And by the way, both of these minorities like to dance,
and to sing.
Next to the Rocks and the Yis there are also plenty of flowers in the
stone forest. Here a small bit of the whole piece. More is to come in
our picture collection.
Some of the flowers looked really weired. For example two trees, one
called "Video Camerasis" from the family of the "spectatorensis" and
the "Aqua Pumpis"....
The trip was planned for the whole day and it took some more time to
walk through all the detritus. Here the next section:
Here is a pretty nice rock that proves, that the chinese people also
invented the easter island sculptures, or?
Really impressive these rocks. Really surprised we was by the traffic
in Yunnan. It's a little different from the big cities Suzhou and
Shanghai.
After the 45 km walk (at least we felt like walking this distance) we
went back to Kunming. But not directly, first we went to a tea tasting
to taste all the different teas from the area. One really important tea
is the Puh Er tea. This is a fermented tea, with a very special taste.
Which is not directly our taste.
Downtown at night we passed. First of all it was pretty late, when we
came back to the hotel and on the other hand we got a pickup the next
day at 5:30am to fly out to Dali. Did somebody said anything about
holidays? Well, that's a completely different story.....
