Before
dressing up for the big charity christmass ball, there is some fare
well to be celebrated. And I mean really celebrated. Two colleagues are
leaving Suzhou after 2.5 years for Finnland. Well, this is worth a
small party with around 100 peopls, no big event at all.
If chinese and finish people having a party together then it is, well,
how to say, challenging. First of all there has to be good and plenty
of food....
.... some events has to happen also, so belly dancer, juggler,
magicians, more dancer, a life band......
j.... just to hand over to the relaxing part of the evening: the Gan
Bei: As everything in China, Gan Bei has a tradition. You can't loose
your face, what means, you have to Gan Bei with everybody who wants to
and drink the glas bottom up. Everybody wants to Gan Bei with the
guests of honor. Good luck, guys.....
The party started already at 6pm, so around 9:30pm the official part
was over. For some chinese colleagues not only the official part. It's
not fair to contest in drinking with the finish guys. So some of us
went on to the enxt Bar. And the next Bar. And the next...... But this
is a completly different story.... uups, this was only the start of the
weekend.
After sleeping in on Saturday - hey, someone needs the beauty sleep to
look good in the evening - the next event started. The famous charity
christmass ball of the EAS. This means, dressing up, getting a Taxi and
see, what the night brings.
Everything was neatly posh, a lot of guys in Tuxedos, the Ladies
dressed up as pretty as possible. Wow. After having some (kind of)
champagne and small talk, the traditional christmas dinner started.
Pumpkin Soup, Turkey and some green stuff.
Obviously there was also life music, even if the dance floor went south
very early the night. Why a ball room has a carpet is another miracle
in China. TIC. But anyway, the mood was really to party.
At midnight - after dancing, drinking, lucky draw, having fun, we had a
toast to Lanirs birthday. He nearly forgot to tell us about it,
but his wife was nice enough to tell. So we could make sure, that
everybody in the room knew about it, after talking to the band ;-)
What a weekend - but stop, that's not all. There is still Lanirs
birthday and Hannuka. Ok, Sonday afteroon we're ready to party again.
And not only we, also the dogs was very happy, getting plenty of
attraction.
At Hannuka candles are light up when it starts to get dark. I'm not
sure about the whole story, but it's got something to do with the
destruction of the temple by the romans and a cask of olive oil. I have
to ask the background again.
So, but that's it really for the weekend. Just a small dinner together
with the Fins at the japanese restaurant and then home. It's Sunday
night and that's schools night.
It's really about time, that Regina gets back to China, but that's
really a completly different story.......
Until then:
